Back in the fall of 2004 I was doing a lot of stuff for the first time and with only a small amount of pre-planning. As an example I didn’t really know that I needed to purchase a ticket from a kiosk in order to ride the train from the airport in Amsterdam into actual Amsterdam. I had Euros but I didn’t have change and the kiosk needed coins. I did get it figured out and we stepped off the train at the main station in the city.
That’s when it happened! I invented the selfie. So….technically the first selfie was taken in 1839 by American photographer Robert Cornelius but he didn’t do it hand-held so I think I still have a pretty good change at the title. I did do it hand-held, I used a digital camera and posted it online. In fact from that morning on I took selfie’s of Tracy and I all around the world as we traveled.
By the end of our trip my Nikon Coolpix 5700 had died and I took our last selfie of the trip with an actual cell phone camera. So not only did I take the first selfie, I also started the now ubiquitous trend of taking selfies with your phone.
