Gates of Mekelle #2

Gates of Mekelle #2

Just because I know you’ve been wondering if I was ever going to do this project or not. One of the hardest things about starting a blog of any kind is getting used to writing regularly. I’m terrible at this (no surprise).

What attracted me to this photo project over 10 years ago when I was living in Mekelle Ethiopia with my wife were the more crafted and designed gates, but I actually prefer my photos of the simple hand-crafted gates. I think it is the necessity of invention that made them. They needed a gate and they didn’t have the money to pay for someone else to make it for them, so they just used the materials they could afford and did it.

I’m the same way myself. I don’t like to pay for something that I know I can do myself if I would just ‘make’ the time. I will put off a project around the house because I’m too cheap to pay someone else to do something I know I can do when I have the time.

Enjoy Gates of Mekelle #2.
